The graph below shows how a combination of home battery storage, Solar PV and reduced night rate grid charging can seriously reduce your bills. As you can see there is overnight consumption between 1am - 4pm where the batteries are fully charged at a grid rate of 5 pence / kWh. From 4.30am when the rate returns to normal but the batteries power the house entirely slowly discharging until mid-morning when the Solar takes over and charges the batteries again.

In this example which was yesterday (5th Feb 20) the house didn’t consume any power from the grid until 9pm which meant a combination of reduced rate power, solar PV and the batteries looked after the house load from 4am - 9pm!
